And so we begin Part 4! This is a pretty special week, because it's the first time that all three tracks have different moods to work on.

This week's Minimum moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused

This week's Medium moods are: Stressed, Excited, Optimistic

This week's Maximum moods are: Chipper, Ecstatic, High

Goodness, that's some mix of moods we've got! Still, unless you're working on all three tracks at once, it probably won't be a problem. And even if you are working on all three tracks at once (...you'd tell me if you were, wouldn't you?), I still believe in you! You've got what it takes to make all three mood themes of your dreams!

Do you have any particular goals for this week? Do you expect to have difficulties with any of the moods? Or maybe you've got great ideas for all of them already? Let's talk about it!

And we're back on track with Part 3!

This week's Minimum and Medium moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused
This week's Maximum moods are: Bitchy, Cranky, Cynical

I've also got a little treat; thanks to the excellent work of [personal profile] magibrain of [community profile] allbingo, I've wrangled up some Bingo cards that cover a lot of the basics! The Minimum Mood Card has sixteen moods (the bare minimum plus Uncomfortable, the next most populated mood), while the Medium Mood Card has all of the most populated secondary moods, plus the four that I thought would get the most use. Along with the Mood Theme Calendars for a Mood Theme in a Month, I thought they'd be a nice addition to this community's options!

Any thoughts on this week's moods? Anyone joining in for the first time this round, or new to the community and looking forward to watching? Are you looking forward to completing any of these goals? Let's talk about it!

And we're back! I hope everyone had a nice break week.

Starting this week, the Medium and Maximum tracks keep going forward, while the Minimum track restarts. If you want just a tiny mood theme with the fewest possible images, now's a great time to get on board! If you want a somewhat more robust mood theme, you can still join now, and finish up the first eighteen moods in Part 3. Or you can double up, and do six moods a week! It's up to you.

This week's Minimum Track moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused

This week's Medium and Maximum moods are: Stressed, Excited, Optimistic

Are you ready to get back to work? Or maybe you're starting your mood theme now? Are you new to the community, or have you been hanging out here for a while? And what are your thoughts on this week's moods, for any track? Let's talk about it!

Aaaaahhhhh, it's tiiiiiime! Welcome to Mood Theme in a Year 2025! Whether you're here for the Maximum Track, the Medium Track, the Minimum Track, or just to watch and cheer along, I'm glad you're here ♥ I hope you have a good time!

This week's moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused

The next six weeks are the only ones where the moods are the same for all three tracks, so it's pretty special! I hope everyone has fun with it.

As with last year, I'm opening discussion in the comments of these weekly posts. I don't know if I'll keep up with the mid-week check-ins this year, since there wasn't a lot of need for them as the year went on, but if you have a preference, please let me know! Even if it's only for every other Part, for example. I may also get less verbose with the weekly mood posts as the year goes on, but maybe not! We'll see.

Anyway! What are you working on? Are you making a mood theme of any size, working on a different art project, or just here to follow the fun? Let's talk about it!

Here it is: The final part! There are only five moods left for anyone who has been following along with the full schedule. We're almost at the end...

This week's moods are: Accomplished, Artistic, Busy

And if those aren't fitting moods for this point in the project (not to mention this time of year in general), I don't know what would be!

There are no minimal moods this week or next week, since I'm trying to keep to a schedule of three-ish moods per week, and splitting the minimal mood set up between the two remaining weeks would give us three times that per week. Still, if you want to go for it, here's a link to the Part One Moods! I haven't edited the formal schedule yet, but the minimal mood set should also include Relaxed, Silly, and Uncomfortable, so there's all 18 moods, should you want to give things a try.

How's everyone feeling about things this week? Are these moods approachable, or is it just getting to be too much? Do they hit a little too close to home, or does the timing make it easier for you to come up with ideas? And have you thought at all about participating next year? Let's talk about it!

And we're back for the final(!) major Part! The last really long leg of this journey, and perhaps, if you've been following the optional moods, the last Part for you altogether. At least, for this round...

This week's moods are: Drained, Groggy, Sleepy

This week's minimal moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused

Honestly, with nearly ten months gone by for this project, I think we're all probably feeling this week's moods! I certainly am, at any rate. Drained especially, but Groggy and Sleepy both also play a part. Still, it's also exciting to be so close to the end! And it's always interesting to try and tease apart the differences between similar moods. Drained has more of an "uurrrgh, I don't wanna keep going" feeling to it for me, while Groggy is more half-asleep (though the exact reason isn't necessarily clear). Sleepy feels pretty self-explanatory, and also seems like the perfect excuse for your subject to take a nap "on camera", as it were.

There's probably more ways to approach them all, though! What are your thoughts? Are you having trouble differentiating between some of the moods? Have you decided to only do one mood a week, or just whatever mood happens to strike you in a given set, if any? Are you looking forward to being done with your mood theme, or do you wish you could work on it longer? Let's talk about it!

Welcome back for Part 6!

This week's moods are: Lethargic, Listless, Bored

This week's minimal moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused

Another group of similar seeming moods! For me personally, Lethargic almost has undertones of annoyance; like you don't feel up to doing much, and you're not exactly happy about it either, thanks. Listless, meanwhile, brings the word restless to mind, except somehow even more at loose ends. And Bored, of course, is tired of everything.

Those are just my thoughts, though; what about you? Do you think these moods are really similar, or are they more distinct than I'm giving them credit for? Do you find different nuances in them? And how do you anticipate putting images to them? Let's talk about it!

Starting off Part 5 from the local library, as the power is out at my house right now 😅

This week's moods are: Full, Relieved, Crazy

This week's minimal moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused

I'm looking forward to feeling Relieved when the power goes back on at my house, I can tell you that much! Thankfully, I did manage to get some dinner in without too much hassle, so I am Full. As for Crazy, well. It is Disability Pride month, after all!

How about you? Are any of these moods sparking inspiration more than others? Do you need help with any of them? Want to talk it out? Here's a good place! Let's talk about it.

Coming in a bit early with the opening week of Part 4!

This week's moods are: Chipper, Ecstatic, High

This part's moods are overwhelmingly derived from Happy, which is a nice change of pace from the Angry moods. That said, I know that I for one was really struggling with variations on Angry by the end of Part 3, and coming up with so many different and subtle variations on another mood is going to be tricky! Unfortunately, it also won't be the last time, as Angry, Happy, and Sad are the most populated "root" moods in any mood theme. Hopefully this will serve as a good continued stretch of your creative muscles, and you'll be well prepared for when we get to that last overpopulated root mood.

This week, as previously mentioned, we're also starting the parallel Minimal Mood Theme run! If you've been wanting to join in on creating a mood theme at a chill pace, but don't want to go for the whole thing, this is a great way to get one done.

This week's minimal moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused

If you're just now jumping in and any of those moods are giving you trouble, feel free to check out the relevant tags (linked above) and see how other people have approached them!

Finally, I've tightened up the applications of a few of the tags I introduced last week, and threw in a few more that I think would be useful for this community. Be sure to check the post out, even if you looked at it when it first went up.

Is everyone ready to get started on this new part and/or to get to work on a minimal mood theme? Are you intimidated by anything, or too eager to go to notice any of that? Do any of them stick out to you this week as particularly easy or difficult? Do you have any thoughts on the new tags or the Minimal Mood Theme approach? Let's talk about it!

It's time for Week 1 of Part 3 of Mood Theme in a Year! To our returning mood-makers, welcome back; and to anyone who's just starting out, welcome aboard!

This week's moods are: Bitchy, Cranky, Cynical

I'm not going to lie, the next few weeks seem a little rough to me! Right now we're going through almost all of the moods that are derived from "Angry"; we had two at the end of Part 2, and we've got another six after this. On the one hand, this is the kind of opportunity where, when you make an image that doesn't quite fit the mood you originally picked it for, you may be able to reuse that image for another mood pretty quickly!

On the other hand, spending close to four weeks focusing on variations of "Angry" seems like it could get a little exhausting. So feel free to take a look at the listed schedule for Part 3 and mix the moods around a little! If you need to take a breather to work on something else so you can figure out the fine differences between "Irate" and "Irritated", but still want t stay on track, skipping ahead to a different mood in this part is a great option.

What do you think? Do you anticipate getting a headache over trying to find nine more ways to make an "Angry" sort of mood in a row, or is your mood theme particularly suited to the task? This particular run of similar moods is pretty extensive as far as these things go, but we've got more similar mood runs in the future; are you dreading or looking forward to any other mood clusters, like filling in the leaves on "Relaxed" or "Silly"? Let's talk about it!

Happy belated Valentine's day to you all. I had to deal with a flash flood and power outage this week, but things are okay now! I hope things have been better on your end though, lol.

And we're back on schedule! Well, for anyone who's following it, at any rate, since it's only a suggested schedule.

This week's moods are: Stressed, Excited, Optimistic

Discussion topics! I personally feel like Optimistic is the hardest to visually conceptualize of these three, but that's just me; maybe you're having more trouble with Stressed or Excited.

How are you doing on your mood theme? Are you happy to be starting the next leg of the schedule? Or are you in a different part of the schedule? Anyone just starting out? (If so, welcome!) Is anything frustrating you, or is there something you're having a really good time with? Let's talk about it!

I'm not sure how well I'll manage to keep up with this over the course of a whole year, but right now I'm very enthusiastic to try and create... a custom Pokémon theme! I'm using art sourced from the Pokémon trading card game, which has a really wild array of styles represented throughout. I'm aiming to include Pokémon that typically don't get featured so much, and to try not to use the same Pokémon more than once. So no Pikachu here, I'm afraid!

So far I'm already having a lot of fun with it, and I'm excited to keep going forward /o/ I hope everyone else is having fun too!

I've finally decided what exactly my mood theme is going to be! I'm going for one of my favourite vocalists/musicians, Sharaku Kobayashi. So now I'm working on getting these screencaps done (and then making them purple because I like purple).

In theory, I'm attempting to do this for two characters. In practice, I may just drop down to doing it for one. XD

Also I realize that they look more Mildly Disapproving lol. Oh well, live and learn?! XD

(If I need to re-tag or reformat this, O Modly One, please let me know!)

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the very beginning of Mood Theme in a Year! I hope you'll forgive me if I'm a little bit loopy, as I'm still coming off of a stomach bug; I'm mostly recovered, just tired.

Our first three mood prompts for this year are: Angry, Awake, Confused

Just like me when my alarm went off this morning! I kid, I kid. Mostly.

As a reminder, the moods we're starting with are the most "basic"/the deepest "roots" of the mood tree hierarchy; you can find the entire Part 1 schedule right here, with the rest of the projected schedule below it. Our first break is scheduled in five weeks, but feel free to work ahead!

I also want to add that you don't strictly have to stick with using this community to make a mood theme; as [personal profile] yhlee pointed out in the intro post comments, you can also use the mood list as prompts for an expression reference sheet for character design!

I now open the comments up for discussion. What sort of mood theme are you making? Screencaps, gifs, art? What will your mood theme feature? Do you have any ideas yet for how you want to portray these moods? I'd love to know more!
