Part 5, Week 1
Jul. 16th, 2025 05:00 pmAnd we're back! I hope you had a good break, however you spent it; or, if you're just starting now, I hope you have fun!
This weeks Minimum and Medium moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused
This week's Maximum moods are: Full, Relieved, Crazy
I'll admit, I had some trouble with Crazy for my Fancy Rats mood theme! I ended up popping a tin foil hat on the rat and, in the original version, had one of those "newspaper clippings with red string" boards laid out in the background. (In retrospect, I probably could've kept it for the official version...) Still, even then I found it kind of a charged mood to work with. Do you lean into it? Play it safe? Go against stereotypes? How do you approach it, really?
Anyway, those are just some of my thoughts. What about you? Do you have any thoughts on this week's moods? Or on the challenge in general? Let's talk about it!

Thoughts
Date: 2025-07-17 03:04 am (UTC)Good one! I have also seen "crazy" represented with enlarged spiral eyes.
>> one of those "newspaper clippings with red string" boards <<
I would've thought "detective" or something similar for that.
>>Do you lean into it? Play it safe? Go against stereotypes? How do you approach it, really?<<
Making emoticons is hard because first, it's a tiny piece of art, so you can't do much and still have it clear enough to read. Second, you have to take something abstract and somehow represent it visually. That limits what you can do, because it has to be understandable at a glance to as many people as possible. So I would lean toward well-known symbols.
Re: Thoughts
Date: 2025-07-17 06:07 pm (UTC)It's a specific reference to this meme; I even based the rat's pose on the template at the bottom, which is why I decided to play it safe. Similar to how I switched creative from a rat based on Neil Banging Out the Tunes to a rat doing rainbow fingerpainting; I didn't want to risk potential copyright infringement. In retrospect, I'm pretty sure my original design for Crazy would've been fine, what with the transformation into a rat and the added tinfoil hat and it not being a direct tracing of the murderboard, but, well, it's not a bad idea to play it safe, you know?
