Welcome aboard for Part 2 of Mood Theme in a Year! I hope you had a good break, because we're about to break into some new moods 👍

Starting now, the Maximum and Medium Tracks diverge from the Minimum track; in Part 3, Medium and Minimum will be unified again, but Maximum will be striking out on its own for the rest of the year. Pretty exciting!

This week's Minimum moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused

This week's Medium and Maximum moods are: Stressed, Excited, Optimistic

And what a combination of moods we have to start out with here! Pretty neat that you can be Stressed, Excited, and Optimistic all at the same time. Or maybe I mean "exhausting" rather than neat 😅 Still, they're new moods to work with, and it can be fun to compare and contrast. If you're sticking around on the Maximum Track, it'll be good practice for when we get into runs of similar moods. How do Excited and Optimistic differ? How would you differentiate the two moods? How about Excited versus Stressed? Those both have the potential to be pretty high energy moods, even if they're on different ends of whether you're happy about something. Stressed and Optimistic? It doesn't really seem like they have a lot in common on the surface, but if you've been working really hard on something you still feel good about succeeding, you might just feel both of those at the same time.

What do you think? Are you ready to jump in on this week's moods, or do you wish the break had lasted a little longer? Do you expect to have any trouble with any of them, or need some inspiration? Let's talk about it!

This is it, everyone; we've made it to our first break!

Anyone following the Minimum Track officially has enough graphics for a complete mood theme, plus three to really round out your image diversity 👌 That means that, if you have a paid account, you can start uploading your mood theme and use it right now if you want!

And speaking of paid accounts, anyone who has made 18 mood graphics so far is eligible for Dreamwidth Points! Do take some time to think about whether you want to cash those in now, or, if you're planning to make more mood graphics this year, if you'd prefer to wait a little bit. In terms of points savings, cashing in at 6 months or 12 months are the only options that offer any savings, but even then that's only a difference of 5 and 10 points respectively.

Anyone who's aiming to make a site supported mood theme, I'm so sorry, I'm still not ready for you 😢🤦‍♀️ It looks like premium paid time can only be purchased in 6 month increments anyway, so I'll need to update the "How to get Dreamwidth Points for making a custom mood theme" post regardless, but I'll do everything in my power to be ready by July—which, for anyone following the Maximum Track, will put you past the minimum 72 images for six months' worth of paid time.

I think that's it for the moment; however you spend the next week—be it relaxing, catching up on moods you missed or redoing moods you're not entirely happy with, trying to get ahead, or something else entirely—you have a fun time, and if you're continuing on, I'll see you here for Part 2!

Here we are, the final week of Part 1!

This week's Minimum, Medium, and Maximum moods are: Relaxed, Silly, Uncomfortable

These three moods help diversify your mood theme; if you want maximum different images with the fewest possible graphics, these are good to include.

But what do you think about the moods themselves? Relaxed and Uncomfortable are almost polar opposites here! Hopefully, once you figure out the one, the other will come easily. Silly is always kinda fun, IMO, but if you're working with a serious character, you might have a bit of trouble with it. Do you put them in clown makeup, or a funny hat? Or maybe there's a scene where their drama is being crashed by a much more unserious character that you can draw from? Let's talk about it!

Here come another three moods!

This week's Minimum, Medium, and Maximum moods are: Scared, Thoughtful, Working

Something important to note here is that Working is technically the final mandatory mood. If you've completed a graphic for all of the moods for the first five weeks, then congratulations! You technically have enough for a full mood theme!

That said, it doesn't count as enough for the free Dreamwidth points; you need to complete at least three more moods for that. I strongly suggest next week's moods for that, since they'll give you the greatest variety of mood graphics for your effort, but they can technically be any mood; if you want to plug all of the remaining moods into a random selector and get three out of that, those would work!

You may have guessed from reading the above that there's only one week left after this for Part 1! That's three moods this week and three moods next week. How have you been doing with the moods so far? Are you having any trouble with this week's moods? Need some help generating some ideas? Or have you already finished and want to show off? Let's talk about it!

Another week down with three new moods!

This week's Minimum, Medium, and Maximum moods are: Nerdy, Okay, Sad

Some more straightforward moods after last week's Indescribable! (Belatedly, if you're still having trouble with that one—valid, TBH—taking a look at what site supported mood themes have done with it might be helpful; a lot of them look pretty similar to the later-occurring Blank, though the Jellyfish have also been turned upside-down in contrast.) Hopefully everyone here is already acquainted with Nerdy 😉 If you're doing your own art, slapping a pair of nerdy glasses on is a quick way to convey the mood, but my upcoming pigeon mood has the bird incubating some polyhedral dice! Okay can be a little difficult to contrast with Good, but Sad is pretty cut-and-dry (or cut-and-wet, if we're including tears).

What are your thoughts on this week's moods? Do you have ideas for some of them already, or do you need to do more thinking/searching? Want to discuss any of them to get a better idea of what to do? Let's talk about it!

(Side note, sorry for my lack of response last week! I think I may have just gotten a tiny bit overwhelmed by how many people are participating 💖 I'm going to try and catch up after my evening shows tonight.)

Going strong with the third week of Part 1! This is the half-way point of the first Part, which also means it's half-way through the Minimum Mood Track; if you're only in the game to make something small but mighty, you could be half way there this week!

This week's Minimum, Medium, and Maximum moods are: Enthralled, Happy, Indescribable

Some nicer moods this week, along with one that's a little more difficult to depict. Enthralled and Happy are straightforward enough, but what do you do for Indescribable? Do you have any thoughts on the subject? If you've made a mood theme before, what have you used for this mood? Need any help brainstorming? Or maybe you're working from the worlds angstiest fandom and actually need help with Happy and/or Enthralled? Let's talk about it!

Here we are at the second week of Part 1, with three new moods!

This week's Minimum, Medium, and Maximum moods are: Determined, Devious, Energetic

What are your thoughts on this week's moods? Do you think they'll come easily, or do you anticipate more of a struggle? Maybe you could stand to rubber duck it a bit with your fellow participants or any of our cheerleaders? Let's talk about it!

And we're back: Welcome to Mood Theme in a Year 2026! Whether you're here for the Maximum Track, the Medium Track, the Minimum Track, or just to watch and cheer along, I'm glad you're here ♥ I hope you have a good time!

This week's moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused

The next six weeks are the only ones where the moods are the same for all three tracks, so it's pretty special! I hope everyone has fun with it.

Anyway! What are you working on? Are you making a mood theme of any size, working on a different art project, or just here to follow the fun? What medium are you working in? Is there anything you're looking forward to? Let's talk about it!

Well, everyone, we did it again! We made it all the way through 132 mood themes to the end of the year. Or maybe fewer, or maybe more than one mood theme, or maybe you just watched. However you participated (and watching and cheerleading absolutely count), whether you've been here since the start, since January, or came in more recently, I hope you had a fantastic time here at Mood Theme in a Year, and that you'll stick around for 2026!

Next year, moods will go up on Thursdays; I hope to see you then!

Here we are; we've finally made it: The last two moods in the Maximum Track mood theme!

This week's Maximum moods are: Creative, Productive

So, what do you think? Are you ready to knock this out of the park, or do you need a little encouragement to keep going? Are you still seeking inspiration, or do you have the perfect idea for both of them already? And what are you going to do with your time when this project is finally over? Let's talk about it!

soc_puppet: A calendar page for January 2024 with emojis on various dates (Mood Theme in a Year)

Looks like I'm going through with scheduling the rest of the year after all 😂 Gotta ride that productivity train all the way to the end when you can! (At least when it's not dangerous to do so, of course.)

Anyway, there's only two weeks of moods left, which isn't quite enough time for either a Medium or even a Minimum run—unless you want to try and get a Bingo Blackout before the end of the year. As such, I'll only be posting moods from the Maximum Track.

This week's Maximum moods are: Accomplished, Artistic, Busy

Some fitting moods for this community, if you ask me! But maybe you feel differently? And how do you think you'll do on this week's moods in general? Are you expecting them to come easily, or are you going to have to put your nose to the proverbial grindstone? Do you need any help? And is this a welcome distraction from the end of the year? Remember, the community schedule is technically just a suggested schedule; if you need to take a break early and come back for the last few moods later, that's perfectly fine! What do you think? Let's talk about it!

One of the only disappointing things about creating a custom mood theme is that you need to have a paid account to use it. This has probably left more than a few people looking wistfully at this community only to decide, maybe later. And to be honest, for a long time now, I've been daydreaming about the ability to gift paid time to any community members who complete part or all of a custom mood theme.

Well, I'm both gobsmacked and delighted to announced that my daydream has come true.

From this date forward, any member of this community who completes a set of 18 images for a custom mood theme will get one month's worth of paid time or equivalent in Dreamwidth points.

Wait, really?
Yes, really! I've been given a bunch of points to use for members of this community as I see fit, and instructions to ask for more after those points run out.

So... What are the requirements?
  • For every 18 images/animations of a custom mood theme you've made or significantly edited in the past year, find a way to show them to me, and I'll award your account with the paid time/points.
  • For every 36 images you make for a single mood theme, I'll throw in an extra month, for a total of three months worth of paid time/points.
  • If you complete 132 moods, you'll get a whole year's worth of paid time/points!

  • The first two options there line up pretty closely with the Minimum and Medium Tracks on the schedule; that said, the posted schedule is still just a suggestion! If you've got a mood theme you've been perfecting on and off for years and you only have twenty images to go, I'm not going to say that they have to include the eighteen moods from the Minimum Track. You still only get one month of paid time/points, since all of the other images were made at a previous time, but you've got the freedom to make whatever images you'd like.

Not all of the moods you make have to be for the same mood theme for you to get all of the paid time/points, either! As long as you make the right number of images, you can get up to one year's worth of paid time/points per calendar year (a total of 350 points). So you can make seven Minimum mood themes (with five extra moods sprinkled in there), or three Medium mood themes and one Minimum mood theme (again, need an extra five), or any combination, as long as it all adds up to 132, divided among usable mood themes.

Is there any way to earn more than a year's worth of paid time or points in a single year?
This is something I'm working on, and it's not ready yet! But, in the future, the current plan is maybe an extra three months a year or so? We'll see how the current arrangement works out first.

Okay, how do I show the completed moods to you?
That's up to you! Here's several options, though:
  • You can post them here to this community (and show of your work to everyone!)
  • You can post them to your own account and send me a link to that post
  • You can share them in the comments of one of this community's official posts; I feel like the Break posts are good for this, organizationally, but any post with the tag "Mod Post" is fine—including this one!
  • You can take a screencap of the images on your computer, upload that image somewhere, and DM me a link

  • I'm all set for paid time, can I give my points to someone else?
Absolutely! You can also ask me to send them to another person instead of you. If you happen to think that a custom mood theme and a month's paid time or more would be the perfect gift for someone in your circle, I'm here to help you make that happen! All you have to do is to organize the mood images.

I love this idea, but I have no idea how to set up a custom mood theme!
I promise you, writing a tutorial on that is almost at the very top of my Dreamwidth Task to-do list. The only thing with higher priority is a tutorial in uploading images, because one of the things you need for a custom mood theme is a place to host the images. Luckily, you can do that on Dreamwidth! But the interface isn't the most intuitive, especially if you're more used to sites where you can just drag-and-drop an image into a post. So I'm getting to that first, and then I'll write up that custom mood theme making tutorial.

Unfortunately, that'll probably be another few weeks out, because I decided to go back to school and am currently in Final Projects Hell. And then after that, it's cookie season for professional bakers like me. But once that's done, I should have free time to get those tutorials written up, and then hopefully get that "What about more paid time?" thing sorted out.

That said, there are a couple of tutorials already linked in the comm bio! You can also leave a comment with any questions in a post with the tag "mod post", and I'll do my best to answer them.

You said this community is also open to people who want to use the prompts for other art things, like character design. Would those also be eligible for paid time?
I'm afraid not; part of the reason I wanted to award paid time in the first place is because there's a financial barrier to uploading a custom mood theme. If you're making art for other reasons, you don't really have that same barrier. Also, the only real instructions I got with these points were to encourage people to experiment with the mood theme feature, and to encourage anyone who makes an original mood theme to submit it for consideration as an official site-supported theme. I love and support any other artistic endeavors anyone wants to tie in with this community, but the paid time is mood theme centric.

Will the paid time be regular paid time, or premium paid time?
For the time being, I'll be awarding you points based on regular paid time. So if you complete 18 moods, I'll award you points equal to a month's regular paid time, not premium paid time. Once the points are yours, you can spend them however you like!

I have a question you haven't answered here.
If you leave it in a reply to this post, I'll do my best to answer it ASAP!

Is that everything? I think that's everything. It's everything I can think of at the moment, at any rate. Well, except making edits to the community profile and sticky posts, but I'm flirting with bed time as it is. So I'll get to those tomorrow, hopefully. But other than that, it's everything I can think of.

(I'm so excited about this OMG 🤩)

Last break! Or, well, last mid-mood-theme break; there's technically a break between the actual final moods of the year and when next year starts, but hey! That's pretty close, right?

Now's a great time to sit back and take stock of everything you've accomplished with your mood theme(s). Whether you've been following the Maximum track from January 1st, jumping in and out on the Minimum track, landing a solid Medium track or two, or somewhere in between, you've done a lot, and I'm proud of you!

Now, if you are going for the Maximum track but haven't been opting in on the Bonus moods, feel free to use this week to jump ahead and finish up those last five moods from Part 8; I know December can be really busy for a lot of us, and having that out of the way can be a big relief! That said, if you want to stick around and make your last five moods with the community, you'll certainly be welcome to do so! Or even if you just want to skip the last few moods; 127 is still a heck of a lot of moods to have made!

Whatever you decide, and however you expect to spend the rest of the year, I hope it's good for you!

soc_puppet: A calendar page for January 2024 with emojis on various dates (Mood Theme in a Year)

We've made it to the final week of Part 7! As a reminder, next week is a break week. Or, if you've been keeping up with the bonus moods (and want to go for the full Maximum track), this may be your final week of work! So let's get to it!

This week's Minimum moods are: Relaxed, Silly, Uncomfortable

This week's Maximum moods are: Contemplative, Nostalgic, Pensive

This Part's bonus mood is: Productive

How are you feeling about this week's moods? Confident? Anxious? Do you need some help figuring out what you want to do with them, or are you raring to go with plenty of ideas? No need to be shy; we're here to help! However you're feeling about your mood theme, let's talk about it!

soc_puppet: A calendar page for January 2024 with emojis on various dates (Mood Theme in a Year)

Honestly, I'm setting all of these up at once, so hopefully this is already going well! If not, I'll have some emails to cancel.

This week's Minimum moods are: Scared, Thoughtful, Working

This week's Maximum moods are: Embarrassed, Intimidated, Nervous

So, any thoughts on this week's moods? Do you already have ideas in mind, or do you need some time to figure them out? Or maybe you could stand to rubber duck some possibilities with other commenters? Let's talk about it!

soc_puppet: A calendar page for January 2024 with emojis on various dates (Mood Theme in a Year)

We're getting into crunch time for me at both school and work, so I'm going to try and schedule the posts at least through the end of the month—maybe even the end of the year. There shouldn't be any change on your end, and if all goes well, I might even try to set this up for next year...

    Anyway! On to business!

This week's Minimum moods are: Nerdy, Okay, Sad

This week's Maximum moods are: Thirsty, Worried, Distressed

We've got a couple of stress-y moods here, and one that can go either way. Luckily, Thirsty, the one that can go either way? You can also have a bit of fun with! If your subject is metaphorically thirsty, you might be able to riff off of Horny from earlier in the year. That said, it's also perfectly fine to stick with the more traditional definition of Thirsty, and go with your subject being absolutely parched. Maybe stuck in a desert somewhere? Honestly, that would leave me Worried and Distressed, if I wasn't sure I could get out safely...

What about you? Do you have any thoughts on this week's moods? Do you expect to have a rough time of it, or do you think it'll be easy? Some of each? Let's talk about it!

soc_puppet: A calendar page for January 2024 with emojis on various dates (Mood Theme in a Year)

Ha-ha! This week I am not only on time, I am well rested and ready to go!

This week's Minimum moods are: Enthralled, Happy, Indescribable

This week's Maximum moods are: Restless, Nauseated, Sore

What are your thoughts on this week's moods? We're getting pretty close to the end of the year, so might you be feeling extra Restless? Or maybe a bit Sore from being hunched over the computer for so long? Hopefully you're not Nauseated, or if you are, it passes quickly...

And how do you think you'll fare with creating images for these moods? Do you have the perfect idea in mind already, or do you need to so some hunting or sketching? Some of each? Maybe you're completely stuck on all of this week's moods and need to discuss them for ideas? Let's talk about it!

And I'm late again 🤦‍♀️ Can I blame school for this? Because I'm going to.

This week's Minimum moods are: Determined, Devious, Energetic

This week's Maximum moods are: Guilty, Hot, Hungry

Thoughts on this week's moods? Feeling like they'll be easy, or difficult? Somewhere in the middle? Are you, too, expecting to be distracted by life's foibles along the way? Let's talk about it!

    Ack, I almost missed it!

This week's Minimu moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused

This week's Maximum moods are: Drained, Groggy, Sleepy

No Medium moods for Part 7, because there aren't enough weeks in Part 8 to get through a whole cycle. Anyone who wants to go for the Medium track is welcome to get a jump on the first six weeks by following the Minimum track for Part 7, then pick up again in Part 2, or to wait and start with the new year on January 1st.

Anyway, moods! Thoughts! Thoughts on moods? Let's talk about it!

Phew, we made it! Time to take a nice break.

Now's the perfect opportunity to catch up on any moods you missed or parts you're behind on, re-do any you're not happy with, or even get ahead on future moods! Or, and hear me out, you might even take a break over this break period. All good options!

Whatever you choose to do, there's no more scheduled moods until next week, so enjoy 👍
