Part 1, Week 1

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the very beginning of Mood Theme in a Year! I hope you'll forgive me if I'm a little bit loopy, as I'm still coming off of a stomach bug; I'm mostly recovered, just tired.

Our first three mood prompts for this year are: Angry, Awake, Confused

Just like me when my alarm went off this morning! I kid, I kid. Mostly.

As a reminder, the moods we're starting with are the most "basic"/the deepest "roots" of the mood tree hierarchy; you can find the entire Part 1 schedule right here, with the rest of the projected schedule below it. Our first break is scheduled in five weeks, but feel free to work ahead!

I also want to add that you don't strictly have to stick with using this community to make a mood theme; as yhlee pointed out in the intro post comments, you can also use the mood list as prompts for an expression reference sheet for character design!

I now open the comments up for discussion. What sort of mood theme are you making? Screencaps, gifs, art? What will your mood theme feature? Do you have any ideas yet for how you want to portray these moods? I'd love to know more!

I have soooo many ideas for potential mood themes! I'm currently planning on a pet/"fancy" rat mood theme, which I've been daydreaming about for years, but a snail mood theme would also be adorable.

For production, I plan to hand-draw things, then scan or photograph (probably photograph) and edit and color on the computer. I'd love to get into pixel art, but that may be a "next time" thing.

Edit: Sheep! I just remembered that a sheep based on Dreamsheep, Dreamwidth's unofficial mascot, would be a great mood theme! ...I'm still probably going to stick to fancy rats this year, but maybe next year if I keep this going?

I'm making a "base moods + a couple of others" theme with screencaps. I was originally going to do it of Kanan Jarrus from Star Wars Rebels, but I'm considering switching to Depa Billaba because she's my favorite minor Star Wars character.

That sounds like a good, manageable goal! And I wish you the best of luck getting good screencaps! I don't actually know a lot about Star Wars in general, but I am aware that pretty much every character has an interesting story to tell, and I might just have to look up Depa Billaba now 😉

Thank you! If I do Depa, I'm using the comic her main appearance is in, so I'll be taking the photos myself.

Depa is... well, has three different versions depending on what version of canon you're going with. She had a non-speaking appearance in The Phantom Menace, which is canon to everything else. One is the Legends/pre-Disney canon, which is outright incompatible with the Disney canon. Then there's the first Disney canon, which is primarily found in the Kanan comics; it's the one I love and will be using. The second Disney canon is her appearance in the first episode of the Disney+ show The Bad Batch, which both simplifies and cheapens her story to prop up other characters and I absolutely hate that version and prefer to pretend it doesn't exist. The last I checked, Wookiepedia (the Star Wars wiki) attempts to meld the two versions to try to minimize the (many) contradictions between the two so the article is not what I would call reliable.

...I think it's pretty obvious I have Opinions. 🤣

I am hoping to use this as prompts to create a mood theme/mood reference for my bullet journaling, so it would all be drawn by hand and also trying to keep it simple so its easy to replicate. I'm not sure exactly what my theme is yet. MY bullet journals & planners are all either Halloween or Rainbow themed, so I'm kind of leaning towards pumpkins & clouds.

I'll be doing hand-drawn OC expressions. :) This sounds like fun. Whether or not I upload/use them for DW purposes is another question entirely.

I have an administrative question? Do you prefer that mood WIPs be posted as (threaded?) comments to the weekly post (like this one) or as individual posts to the comm (tagged appropriately) or??? I apologize if this information is in the profile/sticky and I missed it, but I'm having trouble finding the preferred format...

Same for traditional media! Though part of that is because I'm currently primarily-laptop-on-lap, which doesn't leave a lot of room for drawing tablets 😜

I just had a mild freak-out that I'd have to think and make a decision about this right now 😂 Luckily, past me was on the ball, even if I didn't organize things quite as well as I could have.

Anyway, either way is fine! The only stipulations are that, if any of the images are NSFW, mark your post as 18+ (as per Dreamwidth's TOS), and that, if you're posting more than five images, put them under a cut. Oh, and if you're commenting in a general post about NSFW-related stuff, instead make an age-restricted post to your own account and link there. (Though I think I'll have to give that rule more thought, since I wasn't considering primarily-locked accounts at the time.) I figure if this community manages to grow to the point where we have fifty new posts a week, that might be time to finesse the rules a bit, but I don't expect a lot of complaints about peoples' reading pages until we hit, like, five-per-day minimum.

Mine will probably just be a boring old screen cap mood theme 😸

At this point, it will either be Data (and Spot) from Star Trek 🖖🥰🐈🐾 or Rey/Ben(Kylo) from Star Wars 🤔

Because I love them both equally, I’ll probably just do both 😹

I'm thinking to do either a photo/occasional screencap mood theme with my favourite musicians (as I am totally V-Kei obsessed), or perhaps Kamen Rider screencaps. I'll see!

This sounds like such a fun idea! I've made a few mood themes (here are some), and I love making them, but they do take a long time- especially gathering the caps, so maybe I'll take this approach to make some of the ones I've been meaning to make!
I'd really like to make:
-Teen Wolf
-Nancy Drew
-Bob's Burgers
-White Christmas (I made one previously that was eaten by PB)

I don't know if I'll make all of these or choose one (or pick one that's not even on the list). Thanks for the fun comm!

Yeah, I wanted to make a mood theme for myself some years ago, but just got overwhelmed with trying to figure out which moods to do in what order, and how many there were, and really it was just too much overall. I eventually thought of starting this community as a way to solve my own problem 😂 Two or three moods a week sounded much more doable, especially with breaks built in!

Those all sound like fun potential mood themes 😃 I look forward to seeing what you come up with for them! (And boo, Photobucket, you used to not suck!)
