Fancy Rats Part 3

Woo-hoo, I'm finally done with Part 3!

Bitchy, Cranky, Cynical


Enraged, Frustrated, Grumpy


Infuriated, Irate, Irritated*


Moody, Pissed off**, Rushed


Curious, Predatory, Bouncy


Hyper, Amused, Cheerful


Cheerful I finished in a hurry for Three Weeks For Dreamwidth, but didn't end up sharing there; nevertheless, I kept a larger copy of the image, just because I'm pleased with it.

I did end up using the rat pushing over the half-full/half-empty glass for Cynical, in conversation with Optimistic; my current plan for the future Pessimistic involves the rat being forlorn over the tipped-over glass and spilled juice(?). I may also try and find a way to work in a second rat bringing the Pessimistic rat a replacement drink(?), just to end the "story" on a happier note, but I don't know what official mood, if any, will fit the narrative.

* As you may recall from my Part 2 Rats, I had gotten a bit mixed up and forgotten to make Aggravated. D'oh! At the time I shared the completed Irritated instead, so I'm quite happy to finally share Aggravated now! Slap-fights are a real activity that rats will sometimes partake in when one rat annoys another one.

** At the request of a friend, I made an alternate version of Pissed Off with the rat in question flipping the double-bird:

I plan to include both versions in a .zip of the completed mood theme for anyone who wants to use it, as well as a few others that have alternate versions. I'm thinking of doing an alternate version of Rushed, for example, with the rat running away from an owl's talons.

I love these! So hard to pick faves but cynical works great, I like the change between infuriated and ENRAGED and pissed off, then predatory with the cute little bat wings, love the placement of hyper and yay for cheerful!
Amused I thought like he's amused but also maybe plotting something? :P

Anyway LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing these every time you post!

Cynical has had it with that juice. It tastes like sour grapes, anyway.

I felt like there was such a fine line between Infuriated and Enraged that I ultimately decided to lean into it 😂 It made things easier for me, but the visual escalation turned out to be fun, as well!

"What's the difference between a bat and a vampire rat? Style." - Predatory, probably.

Hyper took a bit of thought, since I already had a rat literally bouncing off the walls for Energetic; I'm glad this worked!

Oh, I see what you mean with Amused! If I were to just tweak the eye shape a teensy bit to make him look a bit more sinister, he could be Plotting very easily. Too bad that's not a mood! I may tweak him a smidge in the other direction before I make the full theme generally available, make his eyes a bit more cheerful to emphasize the intended mood a bit more. Until then, he'll be cosplaying the royal vizier of the local kingdom!


I am seriously prepared to go on and on about any of the rats and the design choices I made, so if you want to hear me blab endlessly, feel free to ask questions 😉

These are absolutely adorable! I thought I had commented back when this post went up, but I guess not.

If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be cynical making eye contact while shoving the glass. But oh the teddy bears! And the slap fight! And the one flipping the double bird!
