Mid-week Check-In

Hello, everyone! We're a bit over half-way through the week, so I thought it might be nice to do a check-in.

How are you doing with the moods you're working on? Are you having any trouble coming up with images? Are you zooming ahead, full speed? Are you somewhere in the middle? Let's talk about it!

If you're interested in sharing some of your images so far, but don't want to make your own post, the comments here are a good place to do that. You can also share any WIP images and ask for feedback on them!

I've got designs sketched out for the first three moods! I also wanted to get a little bit ahead, and thought that aiming for the moods at the end of Part 1 would serve me better than skipping right to next week; this way, if I finish all of these designs early, I can have an extra week off, and don't have to think too hard about where I am in the schedule!

I did have a bit of trouble getting to my sketch pad earlier this week; a certain attention hound decided she absolutely had to have cuddles right when I was sitting down to draw. And, well, who am I to resist those big, brown eyes?

I'm having a great time with this, but I don't think anything im drawing will be visible at the small size of an actual mood icon x'D oops?

I'm allowing myself to work out of order and get ahead of schedule, mostly so that when I inevitably fall behind, it'll be easier to buffer.

Honestly, part of me is relying on any number of mistakes becoming invisible when I switch from a larger image to a smaller one 😂 Or at least, that was the original plan; now I think I might just start with a smaller canvas and draw directly on the computer, since I'm not quite getting the results I want from sketch + computer trace.

I've decided I am doing the Depa Billaba moodtheme, but that's as far as I've gotten. I need to look through the comic and take pictures before I can do anything else, so that's what I'm planning to do this weekend.

Good luck with confused! I'm getting a lot of mileage out of the head-tilt-of-confusion myself, but I don't know if your characters are the sort to do that.

Edit: Forgot to say, Awake looks gorgeous. You have such a lovely style!

Head-tilt I can deffo do, it's the "but face, what do with face???" part that I'm stymied with. XD Thank you though, I will thumbnail some headtilts stat! :D

(My secret, alas, is that I only know two color schemes. When I depart from them, everything goes to heck ahahahaha.)

Hmm; how about the "single raised eyebrow"? Not something that pet rats can really do, so I may outright include a floating question mark in mine, but it's a possibility for humans! "Frown of concern + chin rub" might also work.

(I barely color stuff at all, so I'd say you're ahead of me in that department, at least!)

I got things set up to draw mine and then got caught up in other things. Oops. Also, I'm a little stuck on how to make a pumpkin look awake at the moment.

I have totally been there (see: adorable puppy linked above).

Have you had any luck figuring out an awake pumpkin? For my fancy rats theme, I drew one with extra big eyes sitting in a coffee mug. (...OMFG drawing it as a pumpkin spice latte might be hilarious 😂 Not necessarily what you want to go with for your mood theme, though!)
