[admin post] [sticky entry] Admin Post: Sticky: Welcome to Mood Theme in a Year!

Mood Theme in a Year is a low-pressure community dedicated to creating a custom mood theme. Anyone is free to join or leave at any time, and make as many or as few mood theme graphics as they'd like. Sharing is encouraged, as is asking for help and cheering one another on.

Despite the name, there are three main schedules for this community:

  • The Maximum Mood Theme Track, which begins on January 1st and continues through the year with regular breaks
  • The Minimum Mood Theme track, which starts seven times a year and goes for six weeks at a time
  • The Medium Mood Theme track, which starts three times a year and goes for fifteen weeks at a time, with one break in the middle

  • Mood prompt posting will begin on January 1st and continue through the year. The Maximum track will include all 132 moods; the Minimum Track will include the bare minimum 15 moods for a complete mood theme, plus an optional three moods that will give you the greatest image variety in your mood theme for the fewest actual images; the Medium Track includes all 34 higher-level moods that other moods inherit images from.

Roughly three of Dreamwidth's "moods" will be prompted each week for each track. The Maximum and Medium Tracks have a week-long break scheduled every seventh week. These breaks can be used to catch up on moods you missed, re-do moods you're not satisfied with, get a head start on future moods, work on uploading your custom mood theme, or really to just take a break. Rest is important too, after all!

Additionally, the prompted moods are just suggestions; you can work on the moods in any order you wish. While the order of all tracks is based on the mood hierarchy tree, starting with the mandatory moods and then moving on to the mid-level "branch" moods, participants are welcome to join in or leave at any time. Anyone looking for a particular challenge is welcome to check out the Mood Theme in a Month calendars, with a goal of completing at least one mood image per day to cover all of the Medium Moods! Or, if Bingo is more your style, here's a couple of Bingo cards to cover either all the Minimum Moods plus one, or most of the Medium Moods.

[admin post] [sticky entry] Admin Post: Sticky: Mood Theme Schedule

For anyone who wants to get a head start, or just a better idea of what's to come, here's the various mood theme track schedules:

The Minimal Mood Theme Track starts and ends with each major Part of the Maximum Mood Theme Track:
  • January 1st through February 11th
  • February 19th through March 31st
  • April 8th through May 19th
  • May 27th through July 7th
  • July 15th through August 25th
  • September 2nd through October 13th
  • October 21 through December 1

  • The Medium Mood Theme Tracks start on the first, third, and fifth major Part of the Maximum Track:
  • January 1st through March 31st
Break week February 19th through March 31st)
  • April 8th through July 7th
Break week May 20th through May 26th
  • July 15th through October 13th
Break week August 26th through September 1st

  • The Maximum Mood Theme Track schedule is as follows: Part One: January 1 through February 11: Mandatory moods (plus three) )

February 12 through Feb 18: First break! Take this time to refresh, relax, catch up on any moods you missed, or get a head start on future moods. This is also a good time to show off your progress; or, if you're satisfied with what you've come up with, this is also a decent stopping point; with these basic fifteen moods accounted for, all other moods will have an associated image.

Part Two: February 19 through March 31: Secondary and Tertiary Moods )

April 1 (yes, I know) through April 7: Second break! Take another week off to relax, catch up, get ahead, or even stop here. You've got a good foundation for your mood theme, and are welcome to rejoin and pick it up again at any time!

Part Three: April 8 through May 19 )

May 20 through May 26: Third break! You know the drill by now.

Part Four: May 27 through July 7 )

July 8 through July 14: Fourth break

Part Five: July 15 through August 25 )

August 26 through September 1: Fifth break

Part Six: September 2 through October 13 )

October 14 through October 20: Sixth break

Part Seven: October 21 through December 1 )

December 2 through 8: Seventh break

Final Part: December 9 through December 22 )

December 23 through December 31: Final break! A fantastic time to show off everything you've done through the year, whether you found an early stopping point you were satisfied with, did only one or two moods a week at any given time, or made something for every single mood, now is a wonderful time to celebrate what you did. And for your mod to think about whether to do this again next year 😉

Remember that this is also only a suggested schedule. It's what the community will be officially posting, for anyone who wants to work on prompts as a group, but you can create the moods in any order you like, and stop or start whenever! The important part is to have fun while creating something you're satisfied with.

    Part 3, Week 2

Ack, I forgot to update yesterday! So sorry about that; I got caught up in writing Dreamwidth tutorials...

This week's Minimum and Medium moods are: Determined, Devious, Energetic

This week's Maximum moods are: Enraged, Frustrated, Grumpy

What are your thoughts on this week's moods? Are they relatable, or are you feeling something different this week? Did ideas for them pop immediately into your head, or are they taking a bit more work? Let's talk about it!

    basically done ?!

only 5 moods left : satisfied , content , blah , lethargic , and envious . enough to count on one hand ! and to be honest , again and again , nothing at all come to mind for these ones , not even vague ideas . maybe that will change within 5 minutes of this post , because creativity can be like that ! but also , maybe not , and do not want to force .
would of course still love to finish every single one , but honestly really happy to have even half as much as what make here ! so , think happy enough to say that this mood theme is in final form - anything else from now on will probably just be little tweaks unless unicorn ideas happen :D

( admin note - seem like there is no tag for sympathetic mood ! )

    Part 3, Week 1

And we're back on track with Part 3!

This week's Minimum and Medium moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused
This week's Maximum moods are: Bitchy, Cranky, Cynical

I've also got a little treat; thanks to the excellent work of [personal profile] magibrain of [community profile] allbingo, I've wrangled up some Bingo cards that cover a lot of the basics! The Minimum Mood Card has sixteen moods (the bare minimum plus Uncomfortable, the next most populated mood), while the Medium Mood Card has all of the most populated secondary moods, plus the four that I thought would get the most use. Along with the Mood Theme Calendars for a Mood Theme in a Month, I thought they'd be a nice addition to this community's options!

Any thoughts on this week's moods? Anyone joining in for the first time this round, or new to the community and looking forward to watching? Are you looking forward to completing any of these goals? Let's talk about it!

    another push ...

only 16 moods left at this point ! some fairly hard ones , unfortunately - things like sympathetic , thirsty , lethargic , and envious . but this is not about those moods - this is about ones which actually recently finish !

    Second Break

We've made it to Break Two!

For everyone following along with the Medium or Minimum Tracks, congratulations! You've reached a stopping point. If you want to start a new mood theme or keep going with one you're already working on, those are both great options, but so is sitting back and basking in the glow of what you've accomplished.

If you're following along with the Maximum Track, we're a little short of a third done as yet, but this is some major progress! This is a good time to start uploading some of your images, if you haven't already.

Now's also a good time to go back for any moods you've missed. Or maybe you want to re-do a few. Or perhaps you want to get ahead of some future moods? All good options!

While you can share completed moods at any time, this is also a good time to do that, with no official moods to work on this week.

Whether you do any of the above, or spend the next week just resting, I hope you've been having a good time at Mood Theme in a Year. Let's talk about it!

    aha !

secret to inspiration is complain and sleep . ;P
in all seriousness , some of these fairly simple , or reuse other aspects - slightly less effort and inspiration necessary . good news is , down to 30 non-unique moods at this point ! hardest tree to work through is sad , but even that one shrink bit by bit .
and , since this is lost in post 1 at this point , here is explanation for how template file work ! template include many more pieces by now of course , but maybe this is useful to others who consider little pixel moods too . :D

    another batch so soon !

definitely run near end of ideas at this point , unless meteor of inspiration strike . in good news , now have full dump post to track all this : currently non-unique moods , moods that might touch up or not even bother at all , and 50 total moods in wait to upload !
truthfully would still love to make every single one unique , but that might not be able to happen . maybe that will change , though ! definitely very fun either way to work with these little pixels , and limitations within . maybe some day would be fun to make little public use faerie theme :D

    Part 2, Week 6

We're in the final week of Part 2! This is the home stretch for both the Medium and Minimum Tracks.

This week's Minimum moods are: Relaxed, Silly, Uncomfortable

This week's Medium and Maximum moods are: Tired, Aggravated, Annoyed

As a side note, "Tired" is the final mood that branches, so anyone who wants to cut out a little early, it's also a good stopping point.

Next week is our second break of the year! Following that, we'll be diving right into derivatives of Angry for the start of Part 3, while the Medium and Minimum Tracks will start at the beginning again. Are you making good progress on your mood theme? Looking forward to a break? Maybe you're almost at the end? Or maybe you're looking forward to joining in for the second round of the Medium Track this year? Let's talk about it!

    more moods !

hope to not make habit of double-post , but return with some more moods . :)
    post 1 - post 2

differentiation is still kind of hard , but did make one little change to formula here . originally did not want to include hands , but that start to limit choices . hence , some newer animations have hands !

still plenty left to go to make everything unique - still not quite sure if able to go that far , but would like to try ! unsure if anyone else is able to view this , but in case this will work , here is tree right now - just bear in mind this page lack newest batches . some of these already have unique pictures but deserve animation , while others just follow hierarchy . should probably aim for some of sad or happy moods soon too !

    kossai mood theme additions

unfortunately paid time is long gone and unable to replace still , but decide to pick up some of faces which need attention so these will be ready for next time !
goal 1 is to animate more faces , even if just simple blink or punctuation cycle . goal 2 is to make more faces unique - angry moods especially need variety . that part might be pretty hard , not many ideas really stick out .

    bouncy / silly / crazy / nostalgic )

    sleepy / hot / depressed / exhausted )

hopefully all fun to look at - certainly very fun to make !

    Part 2, Week 5

    Time for more moods!

This week's Minimum moods are: Scared, Thoughtful, Working

This week's Medium and Maximum moods are: Exhausted, Sick, Content

As a note, Sick is the last tertiary mood; there are only two other moods that branch out after this one, and they don't branch very far. If anyone's looking to dip out early, this is a good stopping point. Sticking around to finish out the Medium Track won't take much longer either, though, with only another three moods after Content. At the end of the day, pick the track and stopping point that makes the most sense for you, even if it's not part of the official schedule!

Any thoughts on stopping points? How about the progress on your own mood theme? Interested in starting another one when this Part is done, or continuing along the Maximum Track? Let's talk about it!

    Part 2, Week 4

This week's moods are brought to you with a side of facepalm 🤦‍♀️

This week's Minimum moods are: Nerdy, Okay, Sad

This week's Medium and Maximum moods are: Satisfied, Mischievous, Exanimate

I also just realized that all of the dates in the Mood Theme Schedule are based on last year, which was a leap year; this didn't make much difference in the first two months of the year, but started throwing things off at the beginning of March 😅 Oops! I'll see about getting that fixed up in the not-too-distant future. In the mean time, I hope you'll bear with me and the slightly incorrect date listings.

In non-date related news, what are your thoughts on this week's moods? Are you ready to tackle them, or do you need a bit more inspiration first? We're also coming up on the end of the Medium Track for the first time this year; is anyone working on that track, or thinking of starting it next time? Let's talk about it!

    Part 2 Week 3

Aaaaack! I almost missed it, but I didn't in the end! This week's moods are here!

Today's Minimum moods are: Enthralled, Happy, Indescribable

Today's Medium and Maximum moods are: Discontent, Gloomy, Anxious

Anyway, still busy-ish (visiting family half-way across the country) so I still don't have much to say, but I'd love to hear all of your thoughts on this week's moods! Let's talk about it!

    Part 2, Week 2

I hope everyone's up for more Part 2!

This week's Minimum moods are: Determined, Devious, Energetic

This week's Medium and Maximum moods are: Refreshed, Surprised, Lazy

I'm afraid I've got rather a lot of plates spinning this week and don't have much commentary to offer myself, but maybe you do? Let's talk about it!

    Part 2, Week 1

And we're back! I hope everyone had a nice break week.

Starting this week, the Medium and Maximum tracks keep going forward, while the Minimum track restarts. If you want just a tiny mood theme with the fewest possible images, now's a great time to get on board! If you want a somewhat more robust mood theme, you can still join now, and finish up the first eighteen moods in Part 3. Or you can double up, and do six moods a week! It's up to you.

This week's Minimum Track moods are: Angry, Awake, Confused

This week's Medium and Maximum moods are: Stressed, Excited, Optimistic

Are you ready to get back to work? Or maybe you're starting your mood theme now? Are you new to the community, or have you been hanging out here for a while? And what are your thoughts on this week's moods, for any track? Let's talk about it!

    First Break

Congrats, everyone! We've made it to the first break!

If you've been following the Minimum track, you're all done now! If your aim was the Medium track, you're half way through. If you're going for the Maximum track, you've still got quite a ways to go—but you've got people on your side to cheer you on!

During a break week, you've got plenty of options. Taking an actual break is a wonderful approach, but you can also catch up on any moods you missed, try and get ahead of moods from the future, share any progress you've made (while you can also do this whenever you feel like it, break week is a good landmark for anyone who wants a clear deadline of when to share stuff), re-do any moods you're not pleased with... Or anything else! Break time is your time, so you decide what to do with it.

Mood posting resumes next week with Part Two; the Minimum track will resume from the beginning, while the Medium and Maximum tracks will match for another six weeks.

    Part 1, Week 6

Got some more moods for you!

This week's moods are: Relaxed, Silly, Uncomfortable

These are the first secondary/"branch" moods, which I focus on only because they have the most moods that also branch/leaf off from them. If you only want to do a little more than the bare minimum for a mood theme, but still want a good variety of images, these ones should fill things out nicely. That said, the last of the strictly mandatory moods were last week, so if you're not going for the Medium or Maximum mood tracks, these ones are just for fun! Make as many or as few moods as you want to from here on out.

Do you have any thoughts on this week's moods? Are you here for the Minimum track, or are you sticking around? Maybe you'll be starting with the next Part in February? Whatever else, I hope you have fun! Let's talk about it!

    Part 1, Week 5

It's Wednesday again, time for more moods!

This week's moods are: Scared, Thoughtful, Working

These are also the final mandatory moods. The fifteen moods we've covered so far are the bare minimum for a working mood theme; if that's all you want, you're good to stop here! If you want at least a little bit more image diversity without having to work much harder, stick around for another week, and you'll be pretty well covered 👍

What are your thoughts on this week's moods? Are you aiming to be done with the minimum, or are you looking to branch out a little farther? And what do you think of this approach so far? Let's talk about it!

    Part 1, Week 4

More moods for you, fresh off the imaginary grill!

This week's moods are: Nerdy, Okay, Sad

What do you think of this week's moods? How did you fare with last week's? Are you having trouble with any of them, or ideas coming to you right away? Somewhere in the middle? Let's talk about it!
