Community Description:Team up to create a custom mood theme over the course of a year
Ever wanted to create a custom mood theme, but found yourself overwhelmed by all of the potential moods you'd have to make? Worry no more! At Mood Theme in a Year, the community assigns three moods a week for you to design images for. Draw, screencap, and/or animate your way to the custom mood theme of your dreams, with a community by your side to support and encourage you.

Once a week, the community mod will make a post with three mood themes. Those are the suggested moods to work on for that week. In those posts, you can talk with other community members, brainstorm, encourage each other, make suggestions, and generally cheer one another on. You are welcome to post any mood images you make to the community as you go, and you are welcome to join or leave the community at any point in the schedule.

Despite the name, there are three main schedules for this community:

  • The Maximum Mood Theme Track, which begins on January 1st and continues through the year with regular breaks
  • The Minimum Mood Theme track, which starts seven times a year and goes for six weeks at a time
  • The Medium Mood Theme track, which starts three times a year and goes for fifteen weeks at a time, with one break in the middle

  • Mood prompt posting will begin on January 1st and continue through the year. The Maximum track will include all 132 moods; the Minimum Track will include the bare minimum 15 moods for a complete mood theme, plus an optional three moods that will give you the greatest image variety in your mood theme for the fewest actual images; the Medium Track includes all 34 higher-level moods that other moods inherit images from.

If you want to post more than five mood images, please put them under a cut! You can find out how to do so here. Please also put any images that include common triggers or phobias under a cut, such as rats or spiders.

You can make a mood theme out of any material, including things that are 18+, but remember to mark any posts you make with 18+ images as NSFW/containing adult content. In addition, please keep any discussion in the weekly mod posts strictly SFW; if you are designing a NSFW theme and want input on it, please make a post in your own journal and link to that in the comments rather than discussing the designs in the mod posts.

You do not need a paid account or even to want to use a custom mood theme to participate in this community! If you're intrigued by the idea of creating a custom mood theme, or just watching along and potentially cheering on others as they do so, you are welcome to join in the fun to the extent you feel comfortable.

If you want to create a totally original mood theme, using no copyrighted material, you have the option of submitting it to Dreamwidth to be considered as a site supported mood theme! This means that everyone on Dreamwidth will have the option of using a mood theme designed by you, including free users. To find out what it takes to submit a mood theme to be used by Dreamwidth, click here.

You can join or leave the community and any of the tracks at any time. While the community does have a schedule, it's only a suggested schedule for anyone who wants the extra structure. You can go by whatever organization approach works best for you, including alphabetical, backwards, random number generation, starting from one in the middle of the year, leaving and picking back where you left off, skipping ahead, falling behind, one mood a month, no organization at all, and any other approach you can think of. Take whatever approach or schedule you need to get results you're happy with.

All mood themes created by community members are understood to be for the creator's use only unless otherwise stated.
